The Special Operations Bureau consists of the Community Services Office, Criminal Investigative Section, Street Crimes Unit, Traffic Enforcement Unit, and the K-9 Unit. All of these specialized units work directly with the patrol officers to focus on crime patterns and areas of concern within the community.
Community Services Office
The Community Services Office (CSO) serves as the key communication point between the citizens and the Police Department. The CSO performs a variety of crime prevention duties including security surveys, Neighborhood Watch organizations, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), and community complaint checks.
Criminal Investigative Section
The Criminal Investigative Section handles criminal cases and maintains a close working relationship with allied agencies in the area. This section handles criminal, internal, and administrative investigations.
Street Crimes Unit
The Street Crimes Unit was created to focus on serious crimes and those crimes in which a pattern can be detected. They proactively work to address complaints received from the community and deal with possession and/or distribution of controlled dangerous substances issues. The Street Crimes Unit works closely with the Montgomery County Police Narcotics and Special Assignment Teams.
Traffic Enforcement Unit
The Traffic Unit is comprised of two motorcycle trained officers, one parking enforcement officer, two speed camera technicians and one Sergeant. Their mission is to improve traffic safety and help make traffic flow more efficiently.
