Or better yet, use the world class Metro subway system that ends in Gaithersburg to travel throughout the D.C. metropolitan region. The surrounding Maryland and Virginia countryside offers many Civil War sites to explore. And where else will you find Atlantic beach resorts, the mountains of the Shenandoah Valley and the ski areas of Western Maryland and Pennsylvania, all within a three-hour drive?
