Welcome to the City of Gaithersburg’s online application process! You can conveniently apply for available City positions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from any computer with Internet access.
Applications are only accepted for positions posted under “Current Employment Opportunities” on this page. You may request email notification when an employment opportunity in your field of interest is posted.
You must submit a separate online application for each position for which you apply. If a closing date for a position is listed, you must submit your application by 11:59 p.m. on that date.
HOW TO APPLY ONLINE
Available positions are listed at left. Click on the job title you are interested in and you will be able to review the requirements of the position listed in the job announcement. To apply, scroll down and begin!
The online application has three parts. After completing each part, click “Next” to proceed. All required fields are indicated by an asterisk (*); you cannot move on until the required fields in each part are completed.
- PART 1: Provide personal information (name, address, etc.)
- PART 2: Answer job specific questions regarding your qualifications and eligibility
- PART 3: Type in or attach/upload your resume (required)
When all three parts are completed, you have an opportunity to review and verify your responses before submitting the information. Click “Finish” to submit your application. You will receive an email confirming receipt of your application within 24 hours.
Online applications are stored on a secure site. Only authorized employees have access to the information submitted.
Applicants selected to move forward in the process will be contacted by the hiring department. The length of time it takes for applicants to be contacted varies from position to position, but is generally within three to five weeks of submitting the application/the position closing date. Those not selected to move forward receive no contact after the confirmation email when their application is submitted.

Individuals hired by the City of Gaithersburg are required to prove identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Individuals hired for full-time positions must successfully meet required medical standards for the job in a medical examination conducted by the City’s designated medical facility. A background check may be conducted on applicants selected for employment. It may include checks of your criminal record, driving record, education, professional licenses, and credit history.
