The City currently has a number of federal grants administered by this Division, described more fully in the Table below. In 2009, the City received two new grants under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which included funds from the Department of Energy under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (CDBG-R) formula programs. Without additional Congressional appropriations, these grants will terminate once funds are fully expended.

From 2004 – 2008, the City was a recipient of grant funds under the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program. That program is currently administered by the State of Maryland Office of HIV/AIDS, which oversees the HOPWA program for Montgomery and Frederick Counties.
State grants awarded to the City include operating funds for the Gaithersburg Cultural Arts Division from the Maryland State Arts Council; Community Legacy funds from the Department of Housing and Community Development for façade improvements in Olde Towne; Program Open Space funds from the Department of Natural Resources to create a passive park at the Gaithersburg International Observatory, a National Landmark Site; and most recently, to replace playground equipment at Washingtonian Woods; a Governor's Stream Restoration grant; and grant funds to support the transitional housing program at Wells/Robertson House.
