CITY OF GAITHERSBURG
MINUTES OF A MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
October 11, 2010

A work session of the Mayor and City Council was called to order at 7:30 p.m., Mayor Katz presiding. Council Members present: Ashman, Drzyzgula, Sesma, and Spiegel. Staff present: City Manager Jones, Deputy City Manager Tomasello, Community & Public Relation Director Monaco, Community Services Director Carr and Community Services Program Manager Herndon.

I. DISCUSSION TOPICS

  1. Annual Briefing from the Multicultural Affairs Committee

    Community Services Director Carr, Linda Plummer and Nivea Cordova Berrios, co-Chairs of the Multicultural Affairs Committee presented an overview of the committee's mission and initiatives implemented over the last year. The Mayor and City Council expressed their appreciation for the committee's work and contributions. This was followed by recommendations for the committee to explore opportunities to expand youth involvement and strategies for strengthening diversity throughout all City initiatives and services.

  2. Annual Briefing from the Educational Enrichment Committee

    Community Services Program Manager Herndon and Eileen Shea and Mike Bucci, members of the Educational Enrichment Committee presented the committee's mission and work plan. The Mayor and City Council extended thanks to the members regarding the presentation and their commitment to the City and its schools. Suggestions were made for the committee to consider the following: increase outreach to the PTA Presidents; participate in the planning of the 2011 Book Festival and overall enhance coordination with other City committees and initiatives. The Annual Principal and Counselors Appreciation event and grants program process were highly supported.

II. ADJOURNMENT

There being no further business to come before this session of the City Council, the meeting was duly adjourned at 8:33 p.m.
