MINUTES OF A CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
MONDAY, JANUARY 24, 2011

A work session of the Mayor and City Council was called to order at 7:30 p.m., Mayor Katz presiding.  Council Members present: Ashman, Drzyzgula, Marraffa, Sesma and Spiegel.  Staff present: City Manager Jones, Deputy City Manager Tomasello, Finance and Administration Director Belton, Planning and Code Administration Director Ossont, Director of Public Works Arnoult, Community and Public Relations Director Monaco, Parks, Recreation and Culture Director Potter, Human Resources Director Daily, Information Technology Director Cottrell and City Attorney Board.

I. DISCUSSION TOPICS

Pre-Retreat Review of Strategic Directions and Update of 5-Year Financial Plan

In preparation for the upcoming Mayor and City Council Retreat, staff began the work session with a PowerPoint presentation relating to the City’s financial outlook.  Next, each of the ten current Strategic Directions were discussed and reviewed individually, with staff noting a number of suggested revisions that could be incorporated into the draft Strategic Plan to be discussed at the Mayor and City Council Retreat.  The Retreat is scheduled to be held on Monday, February 28, 2011, from 6:30 pm to approximately 10:00 pm at the Gaithersburg Upcounty Senior Center.  Public input will not be taken during the retreat session.

There being no further business to come before this session of the City Council, the meeting was duly adjourned at approximately 9 p.m.
