Registration is now open for Winter Youth and Teen Sports Programs in the City of Gaithersburg. Winter offerings include basketball and volleyball. Gaithersburg Sports leagues offer one practice and one game per week, allowing youth and their families time for other activities. Additionally the City is offering Start Smart™ programs for 4 and 5 year olds in basketball. Start Smart is an international program designed to introduce youth along with their parents to the world of sports.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis, and some programs have limited space. The registration deadline is November 13. Start Smart registration is limited to the first 20 participants. The City cannot guarantee entry into a program for registrations received after November 13.

In addition to being available online, registration for City of Gaithersburg Winter Youth and Teen Sports Programs will also be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Store in Washingtonian Center on Tuesday, November 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. Special discounts on equipment and apparel will be available that evening to all participants of Gaithersburg Sports whether you register that evening or have already registered.
Winter Youth and Teen Sports offerings include:
- Start Smart™ Basketball for Youth Ages 4 & 5 and Their Parents
- Hoop Dreams for Grades Kindergarten - 2
- Girls Basketball for Grades 3-6
- Boys Basketball for Grades 3-6
- Teen Basketball for Grades 7-8
- Teen Volleyball for Grades 6-12
The City is also seeking volunteer coaches for these sports programs. Gaithersburg certifies all coaches through the National Youth Sport Coaches Accreditation Program. Background checks will be conducted. Free coaches clinics, taught by Ty Sanders Basketball, will be held on Saturday, November 17 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park.
