Artists Invited to Submit Qualifications for Public Art Project in Gaithersburg

Posted 4/10/2012

The Art in Public Places Committee of the City of Gaithersburg is inviting artists to submit their qualifications for a public art project at Residences at Hidden Creek, which is currently under construction.  When complete, the Residences will contain 300 luxury residential units on 6.5 acres located at the corner of Girard Street and Goshen Road in Gaithersburg. The artwork will be located in a slightly terraced, pocket park partially visible from Girard Street.

A selection committee will review applicant qualifications.  Based on the quality of the aesthetic expression, expertise and style of each applicant’s body of work, the committee will select finalists to design site-specific artwork.

This developer-funded project has an all-inclusive budget of $25,000 to cover the artist’s commission, engineering, fabrication, transportation, delivery, and installation of the artwork.

Artists should submit their qualifications by June 1, 2012 via email to dkayser@gaithersburgmd.gov or by mail to AIPP, 311 Kent Square Road, Gaithersburg MD 20878.  For more information call Denise Kayser at 301-258-6394.  To view examples of other public art projects in Gaithersburg, visit www.gaithersburgmd.gov/publicart.

The City of Gaithersburg reserves the right to reject any or all applications, proposals or finalists, and terminate or re-advertise any project without prior notice.
