Donna Baron’s collection is appropriately called “The Water Around Us,” bringing beautiful attention to the many creeks and rivers in our area and their importance in our everyday lives. Baron began her art education at Ohio State University and has recently studied with Stephen Quiller in Creede, Colorado, Walter Bartman at the Yellow Barn Studio in Glen Echo, and the late Ann Templeton. She has shown her work at the Arts Barn, member shows of the Rockville Art League, Strathmore and other art spaces in Montgomery County. Baron is currently teaching classes in creative water media and landscape painting at Plaza Art in Rockville. To view Baron’s art visit www.donnabaron.com.
Marlene Sapperstein began painting over 20 years ago after moving to Montgomery County. Nature, in particular water, inspires her work. Her landscape paintings are a contemporary interpretation of traditional art and incorporate a wide variety of techniques featuring vibrant color and depth. Sapperstein has exhibited with the Rockville Art League, Strathmore Artists and the Montgomery Art Association. She also maintains a private gallery, and many of her paintings are held in private collections around the country. To view her work, visit www.marlenesapperstein.com.
Valerie Nelson has been making jewelry for over fifteen years. All of her work uses traditional fabrication techniques, including sawing, forming with hand tools, and hard soldering sterling wire and sheet. Built from “the ground up,” none of Nelson’s jewelry is cast, and she cuts many of the stones she uses herself. They are fine, but mostly unknown, jaspers and agates found here in the United States. While labor intensive, her process yields original pieces.
Please note that most artwork is for sale, and all images are copyrighted by the artist. For more information please contact Andi Rosati at 301-258-6394, email arosati@gaithersburgmd.gov, or visit the Arts Barn online at www.gaithersburgmd.gov/artsbarn.
