In celebration of National CHARACTER COUNTS! Week in the City of Gaithersburg, 1,025 students participated in poster and essay contests. Students in elementary and middle school were asked to create written and graphic works celebrating the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. The winners of the poster and Adult Heroes essay contests will be recognized at a public awards ceremony on Wednesday, October 24 at Gaithersburg Elementary School.
This year’s poster contest, “CHARACTER COUNTS! In Our World,” was open to all students in Gaithersburg area elementary and middle schools. The contest is co-sponsored by the Gazette Newspapers. 890 entries were received. The ten winners are:

Participants wrote about someone who has had a positive, personal influence on their lives related to one or more of the Six Pillars of Character. 135 entries were received.
