The City of Gaithersburg presents "Paintings and Portraits" in oil and pen and ink by Carol Hill Read and Alexy Zoob. This multi media exhibit runs from September 14 to November 12, 2012 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Alexy Zoob studied at the Art College in Saratov, Russia and the Stroganov Art School in Moscow. He believes that the work of art is a message the artist sends to eternity. All that he wants to say, all his thoughts and feelings, his ideas are transformed into the language of lines, colors, forms and compositions. Zoob reveals himself in his paintings and he hopes that this makes the viewer see and feel the same way that he does.
Carol Hill Read was a self taught American artist. She enjoyed her time at the Art Institute of Maryland and spent many years evolving into the artist who created the clean and incredibly detailed drawings you will see in this exhibit. Read was very resourceful, and her initial talent in "art" was mastering her mother's signature to write notes to school, sign report cards and get out of gym class. Truly ambidextrous, she could put a pen in each hand and write a phrase, from left to right, simultaneously. She was happiest in the last years of her life, when she was able to work full time on her art. Read loved the masters and appreciated all artists' styles and talent, but black and white/pen and ink was her passion.
