The City of Gaithersburg presents “Creative Images,” a photographic exhibit featuring works by Diane Tuckman and Alan Kolnik, at Kentlands Mansion from July 27 to September 23, 2012. The public is invited to a free Artists’ Reception on Tuesday, July 31 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Alan Kolnik has assembled a retrospective of his photographic work. While many of the pictures he is exhibiting are presented as photographed, several use Photoshop and reveal the alternative potential of digital photography. His use of digital techniques to enhance his photograph, “The Red Room,” was highlighted in Digital Outback Photo in 2004. Kolnik’s early work has appeared in the New Zealand Herald’s Annual of Color Photographs and the South Africa Cape Times. In 2011, his photograph of a great blue heron, taken at Great Falls, won second prize in the “Keep Montgomery County Beautiful” competition.

Born in Egypt, Diane Tuckman escaped to France in 1948 and then came to the United States in 1959. Her love of photography began in the 1960s and has flourished ever since. As an artist, Tuckman manipulates motifs in an ongoing series of photographs, reworking images with shifts, growth, mood, and light. She also experiments with printing her photographs on silk, as well as painting on silk, and co-founded Silk Painters International (SPIN), a worldwide organization for silk artists. Through her photography, Tuckman seeks to connect and share, prod and explore. She invites the viewer to take a second look and share a stretch of the road. Her photographs set the frame, capturing the moment and reflecting emotions, drama, peace, and beauty. To view Tuckman’s work, visit www.iteachsilkart.com.

Located at 320 Kent Square Road, the Mansion Gallery strives to foster a dialogue between the arts and the community. Viewing is by appointment only.  Please call the Mansion at 301-258-6425 to schedule a visit.

Please note that most artwork is for sale and all images are copyrighted by the artist.  For more information please contact Andi Rosati at 301-258-6394 or arosati@gaithersburgmd.gov or visit Kentlands Mansion online at www.gaithersburgmd.gov/kentlandsmansion.
