Gaithersburg Co-Sponsors Brain Health Week Activities

The City of Gaithersburg is proud to join with the Alzheimer’s Association, National Capital Area Chapter in Celebrating Brain Health Week from June 20 – 25, 2010 at the RIO/Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg. The Center is accessible from Washingtonian Boulevard and Sam Eig Highway, exit 9 off of I-270.
Have fun with family, friends and colleagues while learning how to live a brain healthy lifestyle. The week of exciting activities includes a 2K/5K run, a lakeside walk, a paddleboat regatta, Zumba classes, and Scrabble, Bridge and Texas Hold’em tournaments. All Brain Health Week donations benefit the Alzheimer's Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. The mission of the Alzheimer's Association is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. In addition to co-sponsoring activities at the RIO/Washingtonian Center, the City of Gaithersburg is also supporting Brain Health Week by conducting activities at the Gaithersburg Youth and Gaithersburg Upcounty Senior centers, giving presentations to residents of several senior apartment complexes, providing information about healthy brain activities to City employees, and issuing a proclamation by the Mayor and City Council at their meeting on June 21, 2010.
