Help Families in Need through the City of Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Program
Posted 11/8/2011
With the goal of making the Thanksgiving and December holidays more festive for as many as 700 City families in need, the City of Gaithersburg is once again coordinating a Holiday Giving program in conjunction with representatives from CCF Vida Abudante Church, Derwood Bible Church, the Gaithersburg Coalition of Providers, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and Grace United Methodist Church.
Individuals, businesses, congregations, and other groups are invited to help by providing monetary contributions or Target gift cards in denominations of $10 and $20 for the December program. Monetary donations can be made with cash, check or credit card. In addition, the program is seeking sponsors to “adopt” Gaithersburg families by providing holiday gifts for children in December. More information and guidelines for sponsors are available in the Holiday Giving brochure, which is available at www.gaithersburgmd.gov/communityservices.
Referrals for the Holiday Giving program come to the Gaithersburg Community Services division from area schools and nonprofit counselors. The program operates in conjunction with the countywide Holiday Giving program to ensure non-duplication of services. This countywide effort is coordinated by A Wider Circle through a grant from the Montgomery County Department of Health Human Services.
For more information and to receive a brochure please contact Maureen Herndon at 301-258-6395 x2 or Sandra Dawson at x4, or download the Holiday Giving brochure from the City’s website.
As part of the Holiday Giving program in the City of Gaithersburg, dinners are hosted at The Oaks at Olde Towne and Forest Oak Towers Apartments, two senior residential communities. The Committee would like to thank Covenant Life Church and The Flaming Pit Restaurant for generously donating the food for these meals.
