Bethesda-Gaithersburg-Frederick Corridor Ranks #5 on "Most Secure Communities" List

Posted 12/23/2011

The Bethesda-Gaithersburg-Frederick corridor was named the fifth most secure community in the large metropolitan category (population of 500,000+) in a national study conducted by Farmer’s Insurance.   Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania earned the top place on the list.
The rankings, compiled by Sperling’s BestPlaces, took into consideration crime statistics, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters, housing depreciation, foreclosures, air quality, terrorist threats, environmental hazards, life expectancy, mortality rates, and job loss numbers in 379 U.S. municipalities. The study divided the communities into three groups: large metropolitan areas, mid-size cities and small towns.
"We're delighted to be on this list yet again, moving up from a ninth place ranking in the last survey," said Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz.  "Public safety is our top priority in Gaithersburg, and this ranking speaks to the value we place on collaboration throughout the region."
