At the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 Legal Assistant Lauren Klingler was presented the Employee of the Quarter Award for the fourth quarter of calendar year 2011.
Made up of peers from each department, an Employee Recognition Committee reviews nominations for individuals and teams on a quarterly basis. Guidelines provide for a maximum of two individual and two team awards in each quarter. Quarterly winners are entered into nomination for the annual Employee and Team of the Year Awards.
Lauren Klingler, Legal Assistant in the Legal Services Division of the Office of the City Manager, was named the Employee of Quarter for her outstanding work serving as the staff coordinator for Gaithersburg’s municipal elections on November 8, 2011. Lauren served in this role for both the 2009 and 2011 elections. While providing staff support to the City's Board of Supervisors of Elections, she helps ensure that elections are conducted in compliance with state and local statutes.
During an election year, work begins in February and runs through January of the following year. The coordinator is responsible for such varied tasks as securing the polling places; preparing and processing candidate packages; staffing all election meetings; securing election judges, preparing training materials and coordinating training sessions; preparing and overseeing printing of the election ballots; checking all forms and information submitted by candidates; handling all required notices and advertising; overseeing absentee voting; arranging for use and return of election equipment; delivering supplies to all polling places on election day and assisting the election judges as needed; and coordinating all follow-up, including certification of the election results and review of campaign finance reports.
Lauren handles her election responsibilities in addition to performing day-to-day tasks for the City Attorney and serving as back-up for Mayor and Council Services. She was commended for her professionalism, commitment and organizational abilities, which were noted as shining through in all the work she does.
