Gaithersburg Police Announces 2012 Citizens Police Academy

Gaithersburg PoliceThe Gaithersburg Police Department is now accepting applications for its Citizens Police Academy which begins Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Weekly sessions will be held at the Robertson Park Youth Center, located at 801 Rabbit Road, from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Tuesday night through December 4, 2012. Class size is limited to 16 residents who must be at least 16 years of age. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, August 28, 2012.

During the Citizens Police Academy, participants will learn about law enforcement techniques and practices, traffic collision investigation, patrol operations, drug enforcement, crime prevention, community policing and other topics. There will also be some practical demonstrations outside the classroom.  "I encourage anyone who is able to attend and make the commitment to come join Class No. 15 as a participant.  It is an eye-opening opportunity to get a better understanding of your police department,” said Gaithersburg Chief of Police Mark Sroka.
