Well-Known Authors, Local Playwrights Featured at 11th Annual One-Act Festival

Annual One Act Play FestivalEnjoy an eclectic mix of short plays as the City of Gaithersburg joins with Montgomery Playhouse to present the 11th Annual One-Act Festival July 13 through 22 at the Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Road.  Performances will be held Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., with special Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16, $14 for City of Gaithersburg residents.  The festival presents two separate evenings of one-acts in rotation.  If you would like to see all the plays offered in the festival, you will need to purchase two separate admissions.

Some performances contain mature themes and adult language and are not recommended for audiences under the age of 16.

In this short satire on movie-making, taking place on an upstate New York farm masquerading as a Guam Marine base, an embattled film director must deal with an egotistical writer, not to mention an invasion of cows.

Old Saybrook by Woody Allen, directed by Bruce Hirsch
Sheila and Norman are hosting a barbecue with Sheila’s sister and brother-in-law at their grand suburban house when the previous homeowners stop by, leading to various secrets being revealed.

Snowangel by Lewis John Carlino, directed by David Dossey
John comes to Connie, a prostitute, to recreate certain scenes of his past and the girl he lost in this tale of the search for affection and truth.

Saves the Day by Brian Doyle, directed by Karen Fleming
Musician and recording artist Ernie lives in a nursing home. His son Art visits with the idea of selling Ernie’s music to a CD company to get himself out of a gambling debt.

STFU by Jonathan Joseph Dyer, directed by Donna Shute
Having a serious conversation with himself in the mirror one morning, Wren starts with a simple question about his name and quickly devolves into an argument about his own existence.

Words, Words, Words by David Ives, directed by Barbara Manning
In an experiment based on the idea that an infinite number of monkeys will generate the great works given an infinite amount of time, three chimpanzees are caged with typewriters to try and recreate Hamlet.
