Art, Music and Fashion Fusion Returns to Kentlands Mansion
Posted 9/7/2012
“Art After Dark,” a cutting-edge art show featuring progressive visual art fused with up-and-coming music, returns to Kentlands Mansion on Friday, September 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, payable at the door. A cash bar and complimentary snacks will be available. This show features paintings by David Barr, music by The Moconuts, and clothing by All Purpose Flower.
Culled from various corners of Montgomery County, The Moconuts play a wide scope of music from the 70’s up through today. Comprised of Jeff Ford on guitar and vocals, Manny Sanchez on bass and vocals, Bill McNamara on guitar and vocals, Rich Cornwell on drums and vocals, and Rick Cornwell on saxophone, The Moconuts have been playing together for years and look forward to playing together well into the future. Their influences include Tom Petty, Joe Cocker, George Thorogood, The Gourds, Allman Brothers, Black Crowes, BB King, and Eric Clapton.
Originally from Pittsburgh, David Barr studied art and graduated from Slippery Rock University. A member of Washington Project for the Arts, Falls Church Arts and The Art League, Barr has lived in the DC area for 17 years and currently paints at his home studio in Falls Church, Virginia. Using a pop appropriation and imagery collage style, his paintings are the result of building up and layering different media. Much like a DJ samples different parts of songs together, Barr mixes various pop culture imagery and typography in what he refers to as visual sampling. He is inspired not only by the pop culture he grew up with, but also the non-stop flood of information he is confronted with today.
All Purpose Flower is an online quality lifestyle and clothing store that features a mixture of many things new, handmade and reconstructed. This creative clothing line fuses soft, feminine, classic, and edgy styles that appeal to both romantics and rebels. Owner Brene Carrington was always encouraged to create and enjoys sewing, knitting, painting flowers, experimenting in the kitchen, and mixing together her own body products. All Purpose Flower is the culmination of all of Carrington’s artistic expressions.
Kentlands Mansion is located at 320 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg. For more information and directions visit www.gaithersburgmd.gov/kentlandsmansion.
