Gaithersburg Students Celebrate CHARACTER COUNTS!
Gaithersburg celebrates 17 years of involvement with the CHARACTER COUNTS! ethics program by encouraging local students to express their thoughts in words and pictures. Hundreds of students are creating posters and essays around themes related to good character, to be judged by members of the City’s Educational Enrichment Committee. A reception celebrating character and honoring the winners and their families will be held on Wednesday, October 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Gaithersburg Elementary School, 35 North Summit Avenue. Reservations are requested by Wednesday, October 17. Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 301-258-6395 x 3.
This year’s poster contest, “CHARACTER COUNTS! In Our World,” is open to all elementary and middle school students in the greater Gaithersburg area. The contest is sponsored by the City of Gaithersburg and the Gazette Newspapers.
Elementary and middle school students in the greater Gaithersburg area can also participate in an “Adult Hero in Our Community” essay contest. This contest provides an opportunity to reflect upon and write about a local “hero” and the values and ethics that person exemplifies. This contest is sponsored by the City of Gaithersburg and the Gaithersburg Rotary Club.
High school students residing in the greater Gaithersburg area can participate in the Foundations for Life essay contest, in which the essayist selects a profound quotation, reflects on its meaning, and explains how he or she will incorporate the essential wisdom of the quotation into a life strategy. This contest, administered by the National CHARACTER COUNTS! organization, is sponsored locally by the City of Gaithersburg and the Montgomery Village Rotary Club.
Posters and winning essays will be on display at Lakeforest Shopping Center October 15th through the 31st.
