Help Families in Need through the City of Gaithersburg Holiday Giving Program
Posted 9/26/2012
With the goal of making the Thanksgiving and December holidays more festive for as many as 800 City families in need, Gaithersburg is once again coordinating a Holiday Giving program in conjunction with representatives from Calvary Pentecostal Ministries Church, the Gaithersburg Coalition of Providers, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and Grace United Methodist Church.
Individuals, businesses, congregations, and other groups are invited to help by providing monetary contributions or Target gift cards in denominations of $10 and $20. The program is also looking for sponsors to “adopt” Gaithersburg families for Thanksgiving and/or the December holidays by providing food baskets at Thanksgiving and gifts for children in December. The Holiday Giving brochure, available on the City’s website at www.gaithersburgmd.gov/communityservices, has complete information and guidelines.
Referrals for the Holiday Giving program come to the Gaithersburg Community Services division from area schools and nonprofit counselors. The program operates in conjunction with the countywide Holiday Giving program to ensure non-duplication of services. This countywide effort is coordinated by A Wider Circle through a grant from the Montgomery County Department of Health Human Services.

As part of the Holiday Giving program in the City of Gaithersburg, dinners are hosted at The Oaks at Olde Towne and Forest Oak Towers Apartments, two residential communities for older adults.
