The City of Gaithersburg presents a multi-media exhibit featuring the artists of “Studio In-Sight.” This unique display of vibrant mixed-media paintings and drawings depicting artistic visions from many points of view runs from January 18 through March 17, 2013 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Established in 2006, “Studio In-Sight” aims to bring space and inspiration to artists who may be outside the mainstream. The studio is a part of the Life Skills Program whose mission is to guide, train, and empower people in a social and supportive atmosphere. The studio is open several days a week in a space at the Dennis and Phillip Ratner Museum and in the St. Luke’s House Community Room. Artists are encouraged to pursue their interests in photography, painting, sculpture, wood work, and more and to take them as far as they want to go. Some use their artistic expressions to work through emotional struggles, while others simply relish in the freedom that creation brings.
Also on exhibit are the winning entries of the 2012 City of Gaithersburg CHARACTER COUNTS! Poster Contest. Graphic works by elementary and middle school students celebrating the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship, will be on display from January 18 through March 17. CHARACTER COUNTS! is a national ethics education program that was carefully developed and is endorsed by the United States Congress, many states, counties, local governments, and school systems. Gaithersburg adopted CHARACTER COUNTS! in 1996.
