Police Department Accreditation
Initially accredited in 1993, the Gaithersburg Police Department became the 258th accredited law enforcement agency in the country. Since 1993, the Department has maintained compliance with almost 400 national standards pertaining to law enforcement agencies, thus maintaining its accreditation status.
In April 2010, an assessment team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.(C.A.L.E.A.) reviewed agency practices and procedures to ensure continued compliance with all applicable accreditation standards since the agency was last reaccredited in 2007. The final report completed by the Assessment Team recommended that the Gaithersburg Police Department be reaccredited. The agency was reaccredited in July 2010 when the Commission recognized the department as a "Flagship Agency" with "Meritorious Distinction".
