Gaithersburg Sports!, a program of the City of Gaithersburg Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture, is committed to providing opportunities for participation in a wide variety of sports activities to our residents and guests. Adopting the principles and guidelines from the National Alliance for Youth Sports and CHARACTER COUNTS!™, Gaithersburg Sports employs the philosophy of "participation over competition." Our goal is to create a safe and positive environment for young people to play. The City provides a variety of sports programs and encourages youth to try as many as possible.
Our philosophy concedes that there are many issues competing for time in the life of both the child and the family. We believe sports can play a positive role in the development of a child. This is why our sports leagues offer one practice a week and one game a week, leaving time for the many other pursuits that contribute to a well-rounded lifestyle. Youth Sports provides an opportunity for developing self confidence and esteem. A sense of community can come from participation on a team of friends from your community or an opportunity to make new friends from a neighboring one. This makes Gaithersburg a great place to live, work, learn, and PLAY.
