Environmental Awards 2013

The Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council and the Environmental Affairs Committee invite you to participate in the Environmental Awards Program. Through the awards since 2002, the City looks to recognize and show appreciation for those who give back to the community to improve and conserve the environment and to encourage others to get involved!
ELIGIBILITY and CRITERIA:
- Open to any citizen, business, or organization based within the Gaithersburg City limits, or schools and institutions with at least 10 percent of their members being City residents that have demonstrated outstanding efforts to improve Gaithersburg’s environment.
- Recognition may be granted for new voluntary initiatives and/or certifications within the past year, 2012-2013, (Achievement Award) or for continuing efforts beyond regulatory requirements (Appreciation Award).
SCOPE OF THE AWARDS:
Examples of environmentally-friendly programs and projects include voluntary practices, educational forums and training, actions to foster community awareness and involvement, innovative activities and methods, certifications, and novel attempts to strengthen the sustainability of the City environment. The Nomination Form includes more specific topics/examples, which are drawn from the mission, long term goals, and long term strategies of the Environmental Affairs Committee, found on the Environmental Affairs Committee webpage.

DEADLINE:
Early submission is encouraged! The deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
JUDGING:
The Environmental Affairs Committee will evaluate the applications based upon program effectiveness, innovation, endurance, and duration. The EAC is especially interested in learning how groups have been working to expand their efforts from one year to the next by building on past successes.
AWARD PRESENTATION:
Awards will be presented by the Mayor and City Council at a special awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 during Gaithersburg Green Week.
