Last week to Register for Winter Sports - Registration for Youth and Teen Winter Sports Programs will end November 18. The City of Gaithersburg is conducting leagues in basketball and volleyball. Play starts December 2 for volleyball and December 8 for basketball.

Winter Youth and Teen Sports offerings include: 

• Start Smart™ Basketball for Youth Ages 4 & 5 and Their Parents (limited to first 20 registrants) 
• Hoop Dreams for Grades Kindergarten - 2 
• Girls Basketball for Grades 3-6 
• Boys Basketball for Grades 3-6 
• Teen Basketball for Grades 7-8 
• Teen Volleyball for Grades 6-12 

The City is also seeking volunteer coaches for these sports programs.  Gaithersburg certifies all coaches through the National Youth Sport Coaches Accreditation Program.  Background checks will be conducted. 

Gaithersburg Sports will be hosting a "Coaches Clinic" for our coaches free of charge, on Saturday, November 17 at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park.  The following grade groups will be having their clinics at the following times:

• Grade K-1    9 a.m.
• Grade 2       10 a.m.
• Grade 3        11 p.m.
• Grade 4      12:30 p.m.
• Grade 5/6     1:30 p.m.

• Coaches Meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 28 at 8 p.m. at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. 

• Team practices will be held on Sunday, December 2 and December 9.  Coaches will call with time and location after the Coaches Meeting. 

• First two team practices and games will be held at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, Rosemont Elementary School or Summit Hall Elementary School. 

• Games will be on Sunday afternoons between 12 - 8 p.m. 

• First game is January 6.  Season ends on February 24. 

• Please note:  If not enough teams register for the Competitive League, teams will be combined with the Recreational League. 

• Regular practices are held once a week at local elementary schools in Gaithersburg beginning in January.  Practice day/time/location to be determined by the coach.
