Gaithersburg Police Arrest Suspect for Attempted Murder

Police DepartmentDetectives from the Gaithersburg Police Street Crimes Unit arrested 27-year-old, Mathew Braxton from the 200 block of Bookham Lane, Gaithersburg, MD on April 25, for attempted first degree murder and assault first degree.

On April 25, 2012 at 7:10 p.m., due to recent complaints from citizens about possible drug activity, officers were in the area when they observed an individual approach the residence and meet with Braxton. Further investigation revealed as Braxton and the individual were talking, an argument ensued at which time Braxton retrieved a handgun from his waist and pointed it at the victim. During the struggle the firearm was discharged.

Braxton was immediately placed under arrest without incident. The victim who sustained non-life threatening injuries was transported to an area hospital.

Braxton is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center.  Additional drug related charges are pending.
