Gaithersburg City Council Member Cathy Drzyzgula was elected President of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) Corporation Board at its annual meeting on December 12. She has served on the Gaithersburg City Council since 2007.
“I am happy to help with the operations of the MWCOG, which well serves 21 communities in the Washington area. I am excited to be involved at the corporate level, to work with the Policy Board Chair, and to take on hosting duties for the 2013 Annual Dinner,” said Council Member Drzyzgula.
Council Member Drzyzgula served as Vice President of the MWCOG Corporation Board in 2012, and has also served as Chair of the MWCOG Chesapeake Bay Water Quality Policy Committee since 2009. She previously served as a member of the Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee.
Founded in 1957, MWCOG is a regional organization comprised of 21 local governments plus area members of the Maryland and Virginia legislatures, the U.S. Senate, and the U.S. House of Representatives. MWCOG provides a focus for action and develops sound regional responses to such issues as the environment, affordable housing, economic development, health and family concerns, human services, population growth, public safety, and transportation.
