Public Input Sought on Travis & Diamond Farms Park Playground Proposals
Two community meetings are scheduled to gather input from residents & other stakeholders.
The City is seeking public input on replacement playground equipment at Travis Park on Travis Avenue & Diamond Farms Park on Quince Orchard Boulevard. The playground equipment in both parks is about 20 years old and is scheduled for replacement.
Two community meetings are scheduled to gather input from residents and other stakeholders. Children who might use the new play pieces are especially encouraged to attend.
The community meeting for Travis Park is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, at Watkins Mill Elementary School, 19001 Watkins Mill Road. The community meeting for Diamond Farms Park takes place on Tuesday, February 11, at the Robertson Park Youth Center, 801 Rabbitt Road. The 90-minute meetings both start at 7 p.m.
Travis Park occupies about 1.5 acres and includes half-court basketball, two playground areas, a gazebo, and a paved area.
Diamond Farms Park occupies about 23.5 acres and has three tennis courts, full- and half-court basketball, a fenced in tot lot, picnic tables, and play equipment. Two tennis courts & the full basketball court are lighted. This project will replace the playground equipment intended for children ages 2 – 5. The equipment for older children is newer and will not be replaced at this time.
At the community meetings, staff will present details about the projects and solicit feedback from the public on possible replacement pieces. It is anticipated that both parks will celebrate grand reopenings in the fall of 2020. For more information on the public meetings and the replacement projects please contact the Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture at 301-258-6350.
