The Gaithersburg Police Department would like to remind residents that theft from vehicles is often a crime of opportunity. To help protect your property and reduce the risk of theft, please remember to:

  • Take Your Vehicle's Key
Never leave your vehicle key in or on your vehicle. Always take it with you to prevent thieves from gaining easy access.
  • Close and Lock All Windows and Doors
Always ensure that all windows and doors are securely closed and locked when you park your vehicle, even if you're leaving it for just a short time.
  • Never Leave Valuables in Your Vehicle
Avoid leaving valuables inside your vehicle, especially items that are visible from the outside. If you must leave something behind, hide it out of sight or take it with you.
