Updated on 10/25/2019 2:34 PM

The City hosts the 3rd annual Maryland Photography Alliance (MPA) photo competition exhibit, on display November 1, 2019 through January 21, 2020. The public is invited to meet the photographers & learn more about their creative process during a free reception on Saturday, November 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.

MPA’s panel of distinguished judges for this competition included Tom Berrault, Bob Leonard & Leo Howard Lubow. Berrault is a Professor of Photography at Prince George’s Community College. Leonard has been honored by the Photographic Society of America (PSA) with many distinction awards and has extensive judging expertise in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Lubow is a writer, educator and award-winning professional photographer. Judging was based on four categories: abstract, black & white photography, Maryland architecture, and still life. Three winners were selected in each category, with honorable mentions as well.

About the Maryland Photography Alliance
Founded in 2017, the mission of the Maryland Photography Alliance (MPA) is to promote collaboration, cooperation, and the sharing of resources among member clubs. Through a strong alliance, individual club members have greater access to photographic enrichment opportunities. MPA’s goal is to encourage the understanding & appreciation of photography through a statewide photo competition, gallery exhibitions, a one-day “Odyssey of Light” seminar with nationally known professionals, the judge certification program, and the MPA grant.

The Alliance strives to be a cultural stimulus that fosters artistic creativity. The rich & diverse photographic culture of Maryland has benefited from the Maryland Photography Alliance. There are currently nineteen clubs in the MPA. For more information, visit or e-mail
