Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association

Updated on 03/16/2020 4:18 PM

Arts on the Green presents the annual juried art exhibition of the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association (GFAA) at Kentlands Mansion, March 15 through May 11, 2020. The public is invited to meet the artists at a free reception on Thursday, April 2, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

This year’s exhibit was juried by Susan O’Neill, a nationally recognized artist who uses light to create rhythm in landscape and the human figure. Through purposeful observation, she explores the harmony that is present between the subject and the space it occupies to create the illusion of energy, form and composition in her work, which can be representational or abstract.

Originally from Michigan, O’Neill now resides and teaches her craft in Alexandria, Virginia. She received a B.F.A. from the University of Michigan, where she also completed international post graduate studies. In 2015 and 2016, she received the prestigious awards of Finalist and Certificate of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America’s Annual International Portrait Competition. O’Neill has received honors, finalist and best in show awards from the Annual Art Center International Salon, Salmagundi Club in New York City, and The Art League of Alexandria.

Founded in 1976, the GFAA is a community of artists residing in Montgomery County and beyond that provides a forum to collaborate on activities that expand on individual artistic backgrounds. The group provides educational programs, promotional opportunities and outreach to local audiences and the broader artistic community, and holds multiple exhibits throughout the year.

Robert Maarsen, GFAA Vice President of Shows, shares that members always look forward with excitement to their annual group show at Kentlands Mansion. This will be the 34th year that this exhibit has taken place at the Mansion. More information can be found at
