2026 marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence—a bold statement of our nation’s desire for freedom and self-governance—as well as the creation of Montgomery County. Join the Gaithersburg Community Museum throughout the year as we explore these milestones through programs highlighting the American Experiment and the 250th themes: Unfinished Revolutions, Power of Place, Doing History, We the People, and American Experiment.

12:30 p.m. – Saving Family Stories with the Gaithersburg Community Museum
1 p.m. – Getting Started in Doing Genealogy with the Montgomery County Genealogical Society
1:30 p.m. – Historic Home History and Care with Montgomery Preservation Inc.
2 p.m. – Creating a Family Archives with Historic Takoma
2:30 p.m. – African American Genealogy with the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society

Plus, explore live demonstrations and talk with representatives from the Gaithersburg Historic District Commission, the Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission, Historic Takoma, and more.
