The Gaithersburg Community Museum presents Discovery Days, a series designed to stir the imagination and foster family involvement in a fun and stimulating environment. The program is held from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., unless stated otherwise. Admission is free, and reservations are not required. Suitable for ages 6 and up.
Visitors under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Climbing a ladder may be required during Train Day events when the steam engine is open for visitors.

America Celebrates Its 250th!
2026 marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence—a bold statement of our nation’s desire for freedom and self-governance—as well as the creation of Montgomery County. Join the Gaithersburg Community Museum throughout the year as we explore these milestones through programs highlighting the American Experiment and the 250th themes: Unfinished Revolutions, Power of Place, Doing History, We the People, and American Experiment.
Discovery Day programs have been identified by the theme(s) they connect to.

Train Day
All aboard for Train Day at the Community Museum! Enjoy train-themed activities, including a fun craft. Hear railroad music by Charlie Lowery, see model trains with Local Live Loco Steamers, learn track safety with Operation Lifesaver, explore Wabtec’s display, and watch real trains pass by—don’t miss the excitement!

Heritage Days
Stop by the Museum for hands‑on activities and crafts celebrating our county’s 250th anniversary. Enjoy special performances by Ray Owen, presenting his show “Hats Off to America” at 1 and 3 p.m.
