Shaping the Future of Our Community

The Gaithersburg Parks, Arts, and Recreation Corporation (G-PARC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that fosters public and private partnerships, promotes awareness, and raises resources to support both new and established parks, arts, and recreation initiatives in Gaithersburg.

Board of Directors

Appointed by the Mayor & City Council, the G-PARC Board of Directors provides guidance and oversight on policies and procedural requirements for its Alliances and associated Friends of Groups. The Board meets quarterly and governs all G-PARC activities, including financial and legal responsibilities. It also provides activity and financial reports to the City. The Board comprises chairpersons from each Alliance, individuals not necessarily affiliated with an Alliance, and non-voting City staff.

Alliances

In April 2019, G-PARC launched three Alliances—Parks, Arts & Culture, and Recreation—each dedicated to one of the organization’s focus areas. These Alliances aim to create expanded and sustainable efforts in their respective fields.

Parks Alliance

The Parks Alliance unites individuals and organizations to enhance and promote the use of parks and green spaces, support park development and preservation, and, when appropriate, advocate for the acquisition of parkland within the City. Opportunities and programs include:

Explore Gaithersburg: Programs connecting residents with parks in the City.
Park Clean-Up Days: Volunteer opportunities to care for parklands.
- Trail Mapping: Cataloging surfaces, topography, amenities, and features of interest on public park trails.
Tree Plantings: Community efforts to improve the environment.
Friends of Group: Advocacy groups supporting City parks.

Arts & Culture Alliance

The Arts & Culture Alliance fosters a vibrant and synergistic creative community by collaborating with local businesses and the City to enhance quality of life through artistic and cultural endeavors. Opportunities and programs include:

Arts Barn Legacy Campaign: Celebrating 20 years of creativity.
Community Public Art Projects: Including Storm Drain Art, Park Trail Markers, Snow Plow Art & Little Free Libraries
Artist Meet-Ups: Networking events for plein air painters, musicians, photographers, writers, and more.
Artists & Art Organization Catalog: Connecting and promoting individuals and groups in upper Montgomery County (coming soon).
Art Night Out: Monthly arts and culture events hosted across Gaithersburg (coming soon).
Networking Events & Conferences: Opportunities for skill-building and collaboration.
Explore Gaithersburg: Programs uniting the three Alliances.
Friends of Groups: Supporting initiatives like the Gaithersburg Book Festival, Art in Public Places, Gaithersburg Chorus, Arts Barn, Community Museum & Cultural Events.

Recreation Alliance

The Recreation Alliance brings together individuals and organizations to engage people of all ages, abilities, and incomes in healthy and enriching activities. Opportunities and programs include:

Friends of Groups: Supporting recreation initiatives and the Benjamin Gaither Center.
