The City celebrates the written word with our annual Gaithersburg Book Festival, workshops, and readings throughout the year.
We are also proud of our growing collection of Little Free Libraries. Installed in public spaces across the City, the Little Free Libraries are built on a simple idea: Take a book. Share a book.
The brightly colored boxes make great books available to everyone, at no cost — and we are excited about bringing more libraries to our communities in the next several years.
As of fall 2024, G-PARC installed six Little Free Libraries on City property, and visitors enjoyed sharing books all year. In addition, G-PARC has constructed four more libraries, which are awaiting installation.
It has been a team effort. G-PARC obtained funding and chose locations based on convenience and accessibility, such as parks and near schools. Local Scouts have built most of the libraries. Artists from the area have decorated the libraries with images of birds, plants, Gaithersburg events, and more.
Join us to bring even more Little Free Libraries to the City. You can help us DASH: Donate, Adopt, Sponsor, and Hold.
Our vision is to install several new libraries each year — but we cannot do it without your support. Donate to the Little Free Libraries program, or sign up to monitor and supply an existing Little Free Library. Help us identify our next locations. If you know about a group that would be a potential partner, please reach out.
