On November 7, 2019, the Board of Supervisors of Elections officially certified the winners of the Gaithersburg municipal election for City Council as Neil Harris, Ryan Spiegel & Robert Wu. The newly elected officials will be sworn in at a meeting of the Mayor & City Council on November 18, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. Each of these elected officials will serve a four-year term. The next municipal election for Mayor & two City Council Members will take place on November 2, 2021.

After taking authorized absentee & provisional ballots into consideration, the total number of ballots cast in the November 5, 2019 election increased from 2,249 to 2,388. The voter turnout was officially 6.54%. This year same-day voter registration was allowed for the first time. Twenty-four people registered at the polls.

The candidates with the highest number of votes were Robert Wu with 2,021 (84.63%), Neil Harris with 1,672 (70.02%), and Ryan Spiegel with 1,658 (69.43%). Write-in candidate Juan Aguirre finished in fourth place with 476 votes (19.93%), write-in candidate Carol Johnson finished in fifth place with 435 votes (18.22%), and write-in candidate Nicole Ukiteyedi finished in sixth place with 117 votes (4.90%).

Detailed results by candidate & by polling place

City Council candidates must be qualified voters in the City at the time of the election and must be City residents for at least one year immediately preceding their election. They must also reside in Gaithersburg during their term in office. All of the newly elected officials met these requirements.
