Introduction

The Department of Public Works plans to conduct pond improvement activities at Blohm Park stormwater management pond. The City hired a contractor to perform design, construction, and a three-year post-construction monitoring plan.

In 2024, the City hired a consultant to conduct a dredging feasibility study to:

  • Investigate the amount of sediment in the pond;
  • Construction options;
  • Estimates for sediment removal and disposal;
  • Restabilizing dam embankment; and
  • Restoring vegetative landscape around the perimeter of the pond.

The feasibility study concluded that approximately 30% of the pond basin capacity in full of sediment. The study recommended removing approximately 1500 cubic yards of sediment.
The City plans to achieve pond improvements at Blohm Park in three (3) phases.

Phase 1: Sediment and erosion control and landscape design.

Phase 2: Construction activities including the dredging of the pond sediment, sediment disposal, embankment stabilization, and vegetative restoration.

Phase 3: Post-construction monitoring.

Status

The contractor is currently working with their design consultant to complete a sediment and erosion plan, and new landscape design. When these plans are complete, the contractor will submit a permitting application to the state for review and a community meeting will be scheduled to update residents and answer any project questions. A tentative construction schedule will be presented at the community meeting.
