Below are major WSSC projects either within the City of Gaithersburg Corporate limits or that will affect City residents. Please contact the WSSC Project Mangers listed for each project for further information or inquiries.
Impact to water service is expected to be minimal, but some disruption may occur. WSSC notes that some trees may have to be pruned or removed to accommodate the work as well. For planned water service interruptions, WSSC will provide 48-hour advance notice to impacted residents. In the event of a water or sewer emergency, contact the WSSC 24-hour Emergency Call Center at 301-206-4002.
Temporary parking restrictions may be needed, and WSSC will provide 48-hour advance notice of any such restrictions or changes in work hours. WSSC will restore sidewalks, roadways and landscaping within 90 days of the construction completion.
Spring / Summer 2020
WSSC will replace water mains in the Observatory Heights neighborhood of Gaithersburg starting in the spring/summer of 2020. The yearlong project involves replacing/rehabilitating 1.1 miles of 6”, 8” and 10” water mains with new zinc-coated ductile iron pipe, which is expected to last at least 100 years. The current mains were installed 60 to 100 years ago and are nearing the end of their life cycle.

Rosemont & Walnut Hill Neighborhoods

As part of the Edgewood Water Main Replacement Project, WSSC will replace water mains in the Rosemont and Walnut Hill neighborhoods of Gaithersburg starting in the spring/summer of 2020. The project involves replacing/rehabilitating water mains with new ductile iron pipe.
