Encompassing everything from pet licensing to assistance with accessibility modifications, the City of Gaithersburg provides a variety of services to its residents and visitors, and those who work, shop and dine in our community. Animal Control

The Animal Control staff is responsible for enforcing the animal control ordinance and promoting the humane treatment of all animals in an effort to maintain harmony in the environment between citizens, pets and wildlife.

Community Services

Community Services implements and supports assistance programs encompassing interim case management, community outreach, and education, housing counseling, financial wellness, emergency assistance and safety-net services, and provides resources and referrals to City residents in need.

Economic and Business Development

The Office of Economic Development oversees economic development programs and services, assisting existing and potential businesses and industries, preparing marketing materials and strategies, and acting as a liaison between the City and the business community.

Environmental Services

Gaithersburg supports a healthy, productive environment with clean air and clean water. The role of Gaithersburg's environmental program is to understand environmental concerns, develop strategies, and make decisions consistent with the City's Mission and Strategic Plan that protect and enhance our environmental resources.

Facility Rentals

Host your next birthday party, business meeting, company picnic, wedding, or any other type of social gathering at one of the City’s many unique venues. Each offers unique amenities, and there are a variety of spaces available to accommodate intimate gatherings and large company functions.

Fire Marshal

Accomplished through engineering, education, and enforcement, the City Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for ensuring compliance with the City Fire Code thereby promoting life safety for all those that live, work, and visit the City.

Housing Services

The Division of Housing and Community Development maintains comprehensive housing policies and programs that provide fair, affordable options in homeownership and rental opportunities.    Housing programs administered by the City include inclusionary housing (MPDUs and WFHUs), closing cost and down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers  and deferred loans for homeowners and qualified tenants who wish to make their homes accessible and visitable for anyone with a disability.  City residents seeking rental and utility assistance should contact the City’s Community Services Division.

Neighborhood Services

The Neighborhood Services Team is responsible for administering and enforcing a wide variety of City Codes regarding property maintenance, public nuisances, rental housing, landlord-tenant relations, vendors, and home-based businesses.

Online Services

The City of Gaithersburg offers a variety of online services including registration for Alert Gaithersburg, inGaithersburg e-mail newsletters, and a variety of recreation programs, speed camera and parking ticket payments, submission of surveys and traffic violations, and status and details of planning and permit applications.


Passport applications are accepted by appointment only at City Hall.

Permitting & Inspections

The division provides permitting and inspection services for all construction including building, electrical, mechanical, fire systems, grading and sediment control, forest conservation, new road construction, storm drains, and stormwater management, improvements for the purpose of public safety and ensuring quality private and public infrastructure.

Planning Services

The Planning Division provides services and information for current zoning and development matters.

Police Services

The Gaithersburg Police Department is a nationally-accredited law enforcement agency that shares responsibility for services with the Montgomery County Police, providing coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Public Works

Services include street and alley pavement maintenance such as spot patching, crack sealing and resurfacing; constructing, maintaining and repairing sidewalks, concrete curbs and gutters; street sweeping; mowing and median beautification; and snow removal.

Recycling & Bulk Pick Up

The City contracts with a private hauler for the collection of newspapers, mixed paper, corrugated cardboard, commingled cans, glass containers and plastic bottles.

Senior Activities

The Benjamin Gaither Center serves residents of Gaithersburg and the surrounding area by offering a variety of classes, trips, special events, activities and a lunch program for those 55 years of age and older.
