All in-person services have been suspended through at least June 14, 2020. Non-emergency animal control services are curtailed until further notice.

Report life-threatening animal control concerns to 301-279-8000 or 240-773-5230.

Due to limited operations we ask that all new applications, renewals and/or payments for licenses be submitted via USPS to City Hall, Planning & Code Administration, 31 South Summit Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20877. For licenses set to expire during the COVID-19 state of emergency, the expiration date will be extended for a period of 30 days after the state of emergency is terminated.

Inquiries & questions may be sent to animalcontrol@gaithersburgmd.gov. Note that some services may not be available & response times may be delayed due to limited employee coverage. Your patience & understanding are appreciated.

The Animal Control staff is responsible for enforcing the animal control ordinance and promoting the humane treatment of all animals in an effort to maintain harmony in the environment between citizens, pets and wildlife.

The City utilizes the services provided by the Montgomery County Animal Shelter & Second Chance Wildlife Center.

Animal Control Board

This Board reviews &acts on decisions & orders of the City's Animal Control Division.

Dog Exercise Area

The Dog Exercise Area in Green Park is a fenced area where you can take your dog off leash.

Pet Licensing

Dogs & cats four months of age & older must be continuously vaccinated against rabies & licensed annually.

Rabies Clinic for Dogs & Cats

The City participates in Free Rabies Clinics for cats & dogs throughout the summer at the Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center.
