The Mayor & City Council and the Environmental Affairs Committee (EAC) invite you to participate in the Environmental Awards Program. Through the awards, the City looks to recognize and show appreciation for those who give back to the environment and encourage others to get involved.

Open to any citizen, business, or organization based within the Gaithersburg City limits, or entities with at least 10 percent of their students/members being City residents, that have demonstrated outstanding efforts to improve Gaithersburg’s environment - either for a project(s) in 2020 or over a period of years (2020 and before). Examples of environmentally-friendly programs and projects are listed in the Nomination Form.

  • Achievement Awards will be for new initiatives and/or certifications for the year of 2020.
  • Appreciation Awards will be for continuing efforts beyond regulatory requirements.
  • Individual Awards will go to individuals/youths who are active environmental projects in Gaithersburg.

Submission & Selection

Early submission is encouraged. The deadline is 5 p.m. on March 10, 2020. The EAC will evaluate the applications based upon program effectiveness, innovation, and endurance. The EAC is especially interested in learning how groups have been working to expand their efforts from one year to the next by building on past successes. Awards will be presented by the Mayor & City Council at a special awards ceremony at City Hall on Monday, April 6, 2020, during Gaithersburg Green Month.
