The City invites you to participate in activities that celebrate & improve the environment during Gaithersburg Green Month in April. In addition to being fun and educational, it is also a great way for students to earn service learning credits while making our community a better place to live.

Sponsored by the Environmental Affairs Committee, the 18th Annual Environmental Awards recognize individuals, businesses, schools, homeowner associations, nonprofits, & scouting groups for their commitment to the environment. With an official proclamation, the Mayor & City Council will designate April as “Gaithersburg Green Month” and “Arbor Day” in the City of Gaithersburg at the Mayor & City Council Regular Session.
Environmental Film Night
Sunday, April 7, 2019 • Doors open 7:15 PM, Film 7:45 PM
Presented by the Environmental Affairs Committee. Join us for a special free screening of Potomac: The River Runs Through Us, a documentary that follows the flow of the Potomac water from its origin, into our homes and businesses and back into the river. The film makes aware the need to protect this essential resource and how the well-being of those who live in the Potomac River watershed is intertwined with the heath of the Potomac. Admission is free; seating is limited & registration is encouraged by calling Environmental Services.
Community Green Up Day
Saturday, April 13, 2019 • 9 AM - 12 PM
Join hundreds of volunteers as they make a difference throughout the community by cleaning up and beautifying local streams, schools, parks, and homeowner association common areas during Community Green Up Day. The City is looking for volunteers for this event. Students can also earn student service learning credits. Contact Environmental Services to organize a Green Up Day site.

GreenFest is a chance for residents, businesses, nonprofits & neighbors to come together, share ideas and learn. The environmental festival has tons of fun activities for the whole family from kids tree-climbing to music & exhibitors. Enjoy live musicians, drummers and dancers, kids tree climbing, 80+ vendors & exhibitors, an electric vehicle and car show, food trucks, and more. Walk the trails, chill out on the grass, and explore the fabulous Visitor & Nature Centers, all while discovering how you can go green at home and in the community.
