Hazardous Household Wastes

Improper disposal of household products harms the environment and human health. Instead of putting hazardous materials in the garbage or pouring them down the drain, bring them to Montgomery County’s collection event, free of charge!

The City of Gaithersburg is facing an increasing and complex set of challenges as our stormwater drainage and control system ages and the City continues to expand and prosper. Stormwater runoff and the effects it is having on our aging infrastructure are a growing concern for the City. Maintaining and improving this system is imperative if we are to prevent flooding, guard against property damage and protect the economic development and quality of life of our citizens.

  • Trash and litter contribute pollutants that can negatively affect water quality or block storm drain infrastructure and cause flooding.

  • Street Sweeping serves the dual purposes of removing Trash and Litter collected in the streets and removing metals, oils, or other products left by vehicles.

  • Public Education supports individual behavior change, promotes appropriate pollution control measures, and provides guidance in reducing stormwater pollution-potential.

  • Erosion and Sediment Control safeguards exposed earth and the resulting water supplies that could be contaminated otherwise.

  • Watershed Planning addresses water concerns and issues specific to your community and watershed.

  • Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination - Illicit discharges consists of toxic pollutants that cannot be treated in traditional stormwater management facilities. Without treatment from a wastewater treatment plant, these pollutants enter directly into waterways.
