Generally, any exterior changes must conform to the Architectural Guidelines of the community. Fences, decks, patios, exterior windows, siding, roof coverings, etc. may be regulated by the Architectural Guidelines in the community in which the house is located. As an example, some Community Architectural Guidelines regulate what color the guardrails are on a deck. Homeowners Association (HOA) approvals of these changes should be obtained before submitting for a permit so you’re sure the plans have been finalized to be in compliance with the community you live in, or are performing work in. HOA approval letters, documentation and plans should be submitted with the permit application.
