Alert Gaithersburg is a free notification system that delivers time-sensitive emergency, weather, traffic, and public safety alerts to subscribers. Messages can be sent to multiple devices at once—including cell phones and multiple email addresses—helping keep you informed when it matters most.
The system enables the City to quickly share critical information and instructions during emergencies or disruptions. Alerts may include where to go, what to do (or not do), who to contact, and other key details. Emergency notifications from Montgomery County’s Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security are also shared through Alert Gaithersburg.
Subscribers automatically receive:
- Emergency messages from the City of Gaithersburg and Montgomery County
- Optional Smart Weather notifications
- Optional alerts about major traffic incidents in and around Gaithersburg

Signing up for Alert Gaithersburg is free; however, your wireless carrier may charge fees for text messages. Messages are kept brief to reduce any potential charges.
Funded through grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and managed by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, this system helps ensure timely and effective communication for the Gaithersburg community.
