The Special Operations Bureau consists of the Crime Analyst Section, Office of Community Services, Community Engagement Officers, Investigations Section, Street Crimes Unit, and Traffic Safety Unit. These specialized units work closely with patrol officers to address crime patterns and areas of concern within the community.
Community Engagement Officers
(formerly known as the School Resource Officer)
Community Engagement Officers (CEO) area sworn uniformed law enforcement officers trained in emergency preparedness, crisis management, community policing concepts, and problem solving, designated to work as a liaison to the Montgomery County Public Schools.
Office of Community Services
The Office of Community Services (OCS) serves as the focal point for communication between citizens & the police department, and facilitates a cohesive & proactive approach to problem solving by the department.
Investigative Section
The Investigative Section is charged with the responsibility of investigating criminal acts, internal investigations and new employee background investigations.
Street Crimes Unit
The Street Crimes Unit (SCU) addresses crime patterns, gathers intelligence, and enforces narcotic laws & acts as a liaison with similar units of allied agencies to de-conflict or coordinate investigations.
Traffic Safety Unit
The Traffic Safety Unit is supervised by a Sergeant and is allocated one full-time Parking Enforcement Official, three part-time Parking Enforcement Officials, and two full-time Speed Camera Technicians. Their mission is to improve traffic safety and reduce personal injury collisions.
