Accepted: Ensure items are clean and free of food residue before recycling.

Not Accepted: Items with food remnants cannot be recycled.

Glass Bottles Jars

Glass

Examples: Glass food or beverage jars and bottles, such as those used for soft drinks, juice, beer, wine, spaghetti sauce, pickles, and mayonnaise.

Accepted:

  • Empty and rinse containers before recycling.
  • Labels can remain on the containers.

Not Accepted:

  • Mirrors or window glass.
  • Broken glass.
  • Drinking glasses, cups, plates, cookware, pottery, ceramics, or crystal.
  • Light bulbs.
Metal Cans

Metal Cans

Examples: Metal food or beverage cans, including soft drink, beer, juice, tuna, bean, vegetable, and pet food cans.

Accepted:

  • Empty and rinse cans before recycling.
  • Labels and attached lids are acceptable.
  • Push lids down into cans to prevent injury to collectors.

Not Accepted:

  • Paint cans.
  • Aerosol cans.
  • Automobile parts, household metal items, pots and pans, aluminum siding, furniture, or propane tanks.
  • Completely removed can lids.
Plastic Bottles

Plastic

Examples:

  • Narrow-neck plastic bottles that contained food, drink, and household products, such as milk, juice, water, syrup, vegetable oil, salad dressing, cleaning agents, detergents, and shampoo/conditioner bottles.
  • Plastic food-grade tubs and lids, including margarine/butter tubs, cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream, mayonnaise, whipped topping, peanut butter, deli containers, and prescription bottles.
  • Plastic pails/buckets like those for ice cream, detergent, pet food, and kitty litter.
  • Plastic flower pots.

Accepted:

  • Empty and rinse all containers before recycling.
  • Labels and plastic rings around the necks of bottles are acceptable.

Not Accepted:

  • Plastic bags, film, or wrap.
  • Containers that held hazardous automotive or garden products, such as motor oil, antifreeze, and pesticides.
  • Polystyrene and Styrofoam products (labeled RIC-6).
