The City offers two sizes of recycling containers to choose from, a 65 Gallon Wheeled Cart or an 18 Gallon Bin. The City’s “single stream” recycling program simplifies the recycling process by allowing customers to combine recyclable paper, plastic, glass, steel and aluminum materials into one single container for collection. This system eliminates the need to separate newspapers from bottles and cans, which can take up space at home with several different bins for recycling.

Carts and bins are the property of the City of Gaithersburg and should be used for the collection of single stream recycling only. Three 18 gallon bins can be issued to each address but only one 65 gallon wheeled recycling cart per household. Broken or lost carts will be replaced upon request.

Recycling must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on your weekly recycling day for collection by the City’s recycling contractor.

The 18 Gallon Bins are available with a detachable lid. If you move, the bin should be left behind for the new homeowner to use.
