Home Main MenuRecycling Service Summary
The annual recycling service fee for single family and townhouse owners in the City of Gaithersburg as of July 1, 2025 is $143.56 per household. It appears on your Montgomery County property tax bill. Note that it is a separate line item that is not combined with the Montgomery County Solid Waste Charge.
Recycling in Gaithersburg is provided for all single family homes and townhouses. Gaithersburg recycles using a "single stream" method, which simplifies the recycling process by allowing customers to combine recyclable paper, plastic, glass, steel and aluminum materials into one single container for collection. These materials are then picked up by a single truck and taken to a waste processing facility. The recycled materials are then transferred to a local materials recovery facility that receives, separates and prepares recyclable materials for marketing to end-user manufacturers. Single streaming promotes recycling for those who like the simplicity of using one container for all recyclables. This system eliminates the need to separate newspapers from bottles and cans, which can take up space at home with several different bins for recycling.
Once Per Week Recycling Collection
Your recycling cart/bin must be placed at the curb or alley by 7 a.m. on your weekly recycling day for collection by the City’s recycling contractor. Recycling that is not at the curb by 7 a.m. will not be collected.
